Evacuation Checklist
The ICE Cube has a place for you to create your customized evacuation checklist. Suggested topics that should be included are shown on the ICE Cube and included below.
In addition to this checklist, be sure to complete the Property Information page that allows you to store photos and descriptions of your property. If you home does get damaged, this page will help you document your possessions for the insurance company.
Evacuation Orders
Regardless of the area of the country in which you live, law enforcement has the responsibility and obligation to restrict access to any area where you health or safety is at risk including flooding, storms, fires, earthquakes, accidents, or other disasters. Evacuation instructions should be followed immediately for your own safety and so responding personnel can focus on the emergency at hand.
Evacuation Checklist
Prepare a written checklist before it's needed:
| Medications | Your normal medications and dosages. |
| Valuables | Jewelry, original artwork, and other irreplaceable items. If the volume is greater than what you can fit into your vehicle, limit what you should take. |
| Important papers | Insurance policies, wills, stock certificates, passports, etc. |
| Photos | Family, friends, and personal photo that cannot be replaced. |
| Clothing & toiletries | At least a three changes of clothes. More can be purchased if necessary. |
| Cell phone | Communication with others is important. Add a personal phone book if not already programmed. |
| Route map | Emergency personnel may determine your route but be aware of at least two exit roads from your neighborhood. |
| Family pets | Don't forget to take Fido or Fluffy. They will not be able to survive without you! Pack a couple of days of their food. |
If evacuation is immanent
| Evacuation checklist | Locate your custom checklist and place the items in your vehicle. |
| Vehicle staging | Park your vehicle facing outward and carry your keys with you. |
| Family pets | Locate your pets and keep them nearby. |
| Large animals | Move your horses and other large animals before an evacuation order is given. |
| Water | Place connected garden hoses and buckets of water around the house. |
| Propane | Move BBQ appliances and other propane tanks away from structures. |
| Clothing | Wear long pants, long sleeve shirt, heavy shoes, cap, goggles, or glasses. Leave the flip-flops in the closet. |
| Windows, doors | Close all windows. Close heavy draperies. Turn on the lights. Turn off the air conditioner and furnace. |
| Radio, TV | Turn on the news broadcasts. |
| Telephone | Stay off the phone unless necessary. A Reverse 9-1-1 call may need to get through. |
